Piccadilly Line Gains New Arnos Grove Branch

Transport for Londinium (TfL) has opened a brand-new branch of the Piccadilly line serving Arnos Grove, a brand-new development in the Londinium Borough of Cockfosters. While currently empty, it is intended to be a larger, less self-contained version of Cockfosters proper that ‘offers a less busy atmosphere while still remaining close to the City’, according to the Borough.

This marks the first time a Londinium Underground line has explicitly branched off rather than split into two lines. The Arnos Grove branch is also extremely fast, taking just twenty-three seconds to travel a distance, measured diagnonally, of about 460m, meaning it averages at about 19 blk/s, giving it ~63% over its top speed of 30 blk/s.

The line was constructed in an extremely short period of time as well, with the hope being that such early investment will result in development in the Arnos Grove area.
